Carrie Underwood Village People Trump Inauguration 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Country music star Carrie Underwood and the iconic disco group Village People are set to perform at President-elect Donald Trump’s second inauguration on Jan. 20, 2025, marking a shift from his 2017 inauguration, which struggled to attract high-profile entertainers.

Underwood will perform “America the Beautiful” during the swearing-in ceremony at the U.S. Capitol, while Village People, known for their hit “Y.M.C.A.,” will appear at multiple pre-inauguration events, including a “victory rally” on Jan. 19. The group’s performance comes despite mixed feelings from fans and band members, some of whom have previously expressed opposition to Trump’s use of their music.

In a statement, Underwood said she was “humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.” Village People also emphasized the unifying power of music, stating, “We believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics.” The group acknowledged that their “preferred candidate lost” but expressed hope that their performance could help bridge divides.

Other performers at the inauguration include country singer Lee Greenwood, who will sing his patriotic anthem “God Bless The U.S.A.,” and opera singer Christopher Macchio, who will perform the National Anthem. Additional acts, such as Jason Aldean, Rascal Flatts, Kid Rock, and Billy Ray Cyrus, are scheduled to appear at various inaugural events.

Trump’s use of “Y.M.C.A.” has been a hallmark of his rallies since his 2020 campaign, often accompanied by his signature dance moves. The song’s association with Trump has drawn criticism from some, including Village People founding member Victor Willis, who initially opposed its use but later softened his stance, citing the song’s renewed popularity.

The 2025 inauguration is shaping up to be more star-studded than Trump’s first in 2017, which featured performances by then-16-year-old Jackie Evancho and rock band 3 Doors Down. Past inaugurations have included performances by Lady Gaga, Garth Brooks, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, and Kelly Clarkson.

Meanwhile, Underwood’s decision to perform has drawn criticism from some quarters, including “The View” co-host Joy Behar, who questioned how the singer could “love America” while supporting Trump. Underwood has not publicly responded to the criticism but reiterated her commitment to unity in her statement.
