Cashman Responds to Jeter and A-Rod’s Criticism of Yankees Management

New York, NY – After the New York Yankees were eliminated by the Toronto Blue Jays in the Division Series, former stars Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter criticized the team’s management. Rodriguez slammed the current lineup, calling it one of the worst constructions he had ever seen, despite the Yankees’ 94-win regular season and Wild Card victory over the Boston Red Sox.
Meanwhile, Jeter placed blame on manager Aaron Boone, suggesting he merely follows a pre-determined strategy set by the front office on the second floor. Jeter’s remarks drew attention to the growing perception that analytics dictate in-game decisions.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman responded to the criticisms during an appearance on WFAN radio. “Obviously, they don’t know anything,” he stated about the comments from Jeter and Rodriguez. Cashman reached out to Jeter to discuss the remarks, emphasizing that Jeter’s lack of inside knowledge does not mean his opinions hold weight.
Cashman also expressed frustration with the narrative that the analytics department runs the team, a situation that has persisted since Boone took over for Joe Girardi in 2017. He pointed to the success Girardi had in leading the Yankees to the American League Championship Series as evidence that a different approach is needed.
Cashman concluded, saying, “When you always feel the need to justify yourself, there’s something fishy going on,” suggesting that changes might be necessary in the Bronx in the future.
