CBS Cancels ‘Poppa’s House’ After One Season

LOS ANGELES, CA — CBS has confirmed that it will not renew its comedy series ‘Poppa's House‘ for a second season after its first season concluded. The decision comes as part of a broader reshuffle for the network’s 2025-26 schedule.
Starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., ‘Poppa’s House’ was the only scripted comedy among CBS’s freshman series to face cancellation. The show featured the Wayans duo as a father and son, with Wayans Sr. playing the role of a talk radio host, navigating challenges at home and work.
The cancellation follows a competitive season where ‘Poppa’s House’ struggled to maintain ratings compared to other CBS comedies. While it was initially a strong performer, a pickup of five additional episodes in November did not translate into sustained viewership. Other comedies like ‘Ghosts‘ and ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’ have been renewed.
Sources indicate that CBS asked ‘Poppa’s House’ to reduce its production budget in a bid to improve its chances for renewal. Unfortunately for its creators, this revised approach did not secure its survival against other freshly pitched projects.
‘Poppa’s House’ was developed by Wayans Sr. and Kevin Hench and aired alongside a lineup that included dramas such as ‘Matlock‘ and ‘NCIS: Origins,’ both of which received renewals. The show was competing for a spot with new pilots, including ‘DMV‘ and a spinoff of ‘The Neighborhood.’
The cancellation also affects ‘The Summit,’ another CBS series, illustrating a challenging environment for network television’s programming choices this season.
‘Poppa’s House’ will air its series finale on April 28, 2025, marking the end of its journey on CBS.
