Celebrating Historic Women Composers at Caltech on February 28

PASADENA, Calif. — A concert celebrating the contributions of historical women composers will take place at Caltech on February 28, 2025, from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM in Dabney Hall. The event will feature pianist and storyteller Brianna Conrey, along with Caltech Visiting Artist Dr. Hyesung Park, a renowned flutist.
The performance aims to highlight the works of female composers ranging from Élisabeth Claude Jacquet de La Guerre, who played in the court of Louis XIV, to Florence Price, the first African-American woman recognized as a composer. Audiences will explore the challenges these artists faced, including sexism, imposter syndrome, and motherhood, while striving for professional recognition.
“Despite their doubts, these composers continued to create music that resonates today,” Conrey said. “I’m excited to bring their stories and music to life during this performance.”
Conrey, a quarter-finalist from the 2016 Cliburn International Amateur Piano Competition, has previously showcased her talent at various venues, including Freight & Salvage in Berkeley and Santa Clara University. Her collaboration with Dr. Park promises a captivating experience for attendees.
This free event is open to the public, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. For additional information, those interested can contact Sergei Gukov at [email protected].
