Prophet Muhammad Celebration In Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu, along with various state governors and prominent leaders, have encouraged Muslims to embrace the virtues exemplified by Prophet Muhammad. During the celebration of Maulud Nabiy, the birthday of the Prophet, these leaders highlighted the importance of peace, empathy, and compassion for national unity.

The Federal Government declared Monday a public holiday to commemorate the event, encouraging reflection on the Prophet’s exemplary life. In a message by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu stated, “As we mark the Maulud, we should all reflect on the life lived by Prophet Muhammad, exemplified by purity, selflessness, perseverance, kindness, and compassion. We must endeavor to imbibe those virtues.” He urged Muslims to use this period for reflection and prayer for the country.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in a statement through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, called on Muslims to be inspired by the virtues of harmony and service to humanity, expressed in the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, also emphasized the need for prayers for Nigeria’s prosperity, noting the country’s current challenges.

The Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, emphasized the importance of compassion and peace. “As we celebrate the birthday of our noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW), let us reflect on his virtues and teachings,” he said. His statement was shared by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir.

Governors across various states echoed these sentiments. Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, urged the faithful to live by the virtues taught by the Prophet, while Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, highlighted Prophet Muhammad’s qualities of tolerance and honesty. Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, and Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, urged prayers for peace and prosperity amidst current challenges.

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, called upon Muslims to pray for Nigeria and emphasized the significance of Maulud for seeking divine intervention. Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence and unity for national progress. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, also highlighted the need for resilience, justice, and peaceful coexistence.

Former Senate President Ahmad Lawan urged Nigerians to uphold the values of love and forgiveness while the former Senate Chief Whip, Orji Kalu, underscored the importance of unity in diversity. The opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), advised the government to reassess policies affecting the populace negatively and emphasized citizens’ welfare.
