Celebrating Women in Gaming: Upcoming Titles to Watch
It’s hard to believe that it’s already Women’s Day, and this year marks the fourth time I’ve had the pleasure of celebrating it with all of you, NAG readers.
Each year, I take a moment to highlight the amazing women who are changing the gaming landscape—whether it’s through innovative games created by women or through strong, memorable female characters in our favorite titles.
The video game industry has come a long way in terms of inclusivity and representation. We’re witnessing a vibrant shift where female characters aren’t just sidekicks anymore, but rather dynamic leads who drive their narratives with strength and poise.
This year, instead of looking back, I want to shine a light on the future of gaming. I’m excited to share some upcoming games featuring female protagonists that I can’t wait to play. I hope you find them as thrilling as I do!
First on the list is Bloomtown: A Different Story from Lazy Bear Games. Set in a quirky 1960s Americana world, you’ll step into the role of Emily, alongside her brother Chester, as they explore a town where children have mysteriously vanished.
Next up is Constance, a hand-drawn action-adventure by btf that lets you dive into an artist’s inner world filled with paint-based mechanics. It promises to be a beautiful blend of Hollow Knight and Celeste!
Then there’s Dustborn from Red Thread Games, a story-driven action-adventure where you play as Pax, an exile who can wield words as weapons. It’s all about friendship, hope, and a road trip across a perilous America.
For fans of Jurassic Park, there’s Jurassic Park: Survival by Saber Interactive, where you become Dr. Maya Joshi, uncovering a gripping narrative on Isla Nublar, right after the events of the original movie.
If you loved Life Is Strange, you’ll want to check out Life Is Strange: Double Exposure from Deck Nine Games. Max Caulfield is back, but this time she’s facing a parallel timeline where she must save her friend Safi from a threatening killer.
Another addition to keep an eye on is Lost Records: Blood & Rage by Don’t Nod, which brings us the story of Swann in a nostalgic 1995. It’s filled with friendship and secrets that span decades.
Mixtape, developed by Beethoven and Dinosaur, explores a heartfelt summer adventure with three friends documenting their last nights of high school through a mixtape, all while scoring some unforgettable memories.
Reka by Emberstorm Entertainment invites players into the shoes of an apprentice witch, where crafting and exploration await as you uncover Baba Jaga’s mysteries.
And let’s not forget Star Wars Outlaws by Massive Entertainment, the first open-world Star Wars game featuring Kay Vess, a rogue navigating the galaxy’s criminal underworld.
Lastly, Usual June from Finji takes players into a whirlwind of mystery as June uncovers the dark secrets of Fen Harbor while hanging out with her ghostly friends.
