Celebrities Boldly Embrace Naked Fashion at Oscar After-Parties

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — On Oscar night, attendees were present, but at the after-parties, trends took a risqué turn as celebrities embraced the naked fashion movement. High-profile figures, including actor-director Olivia Wilde and model Kendall Jenner, showcased daring ensembles that seemed to reflect the notion that less is more.

Wilde captivated fans with a sheer, embroidered lace negligee designed by Chloé, featuring metal accents and delicate lace lingerie panties. The designer’s description indicated a blend of elegance and boldness with Wilde’s look possessing a bohemian charm.

Contrasting Wilde’s understated attire, Julia Fox made a striking entrance in a nearly transparent wrap dress. The only embellishments included strategically placed hair extensions that emphasized her daring choice of style.

In a memorable performance during the Oscars, Doja Cat sang “Diamonds Are Forever,” dressed in a minimalistic outfit that appeared to consist mainly of shining diamonds. She followed this with a custom Balmain strapless gown at the Vanity Fair party, adorned with fringes. The designer, which claimed the gown took 39 artisans and roughly 3,450 hours to craft, drew inspiration from the Oscars’ iconic statue, celebrating the female form through intricate hand-threaded glass beads in nine shades of gold.

Kendall Jenner also made headlines for her bold fashion choice, opting for a vintage black lace design from 1992 Mugler, made entirely from rubber. Meanwhile, Leslie Bibb, known for her role in “White Lotus,” displayed the popular nude sparkle aesthetic that has been trending among various celebrities.

Fashion experts recognize that while the naked trend seems fresh, it has roots extending several years back. Madeline Hirsch, features director at InStyle Fashion, elaborated on the phenomenon. “Though it originated on the runway, the naked dress trend is fed largely by celebrity red carpet moments — stars and their stylists can’t seem to get enough,” Hirsch said in an email statement. She noted the prominence of sheer lace in 2025, aligning it with the resurgence of bohemian styles.

Despite the daring displays, many Oscar attendees favored more traditional attire, but after-parties are often the stage for adventurous fashion choices. Hirsch noted that these events allow guests to unwind, offering a more relaxed version of the ceremonial red carpet atmosphere. “Next-to-naked dressing matches that energy,” she stated.

However, not everyone shares enthusiasm for the trend. Melissa Rivers, a frequent fashion commentator and daughter of the late Joan Rivers, voiced her discontent, declaring, “Let’s be real — this is not a new trend. ‘Naked fashion’ rears its ugly head every few years, almost like clockwork. But this year? It was exceptionally bad. Honestly, I’m so over it. Completely. Full stop!”
