Celebrity Jeopardy Usher Yeah 2004 Episode

In a surprising twist during the season 3 premiere of Celebrity Jeopardy, contestants Jake Greenfield, Keiko Luddington, and W. Kamau Bell failed to identify Usher‘s 2004 hit song ‘Yeah!’ during the Triple Jeopardy round. The episode aired on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, on ABC.

The question, under the category ‘2004, What a Year!,’ read: ‘We got so caught up in this Usher song that it spent 12 weeks at the top of the charts.’ Greenfield, known for his role in New Girl, buzzed in first with the incorrect answer, ‘What is ‘Caught Up’?’ Host Ken Jennings informed him that while the song appeared on Usher’s 2004 album Confessions, it wasn’t released as a single until 2005.

Luddington followed with another incorrect guess, ‘What is ‘All Caught Up’?’ Bell, a comedian and host of United Shades of America, opted not to answer, quipping, ‘Feels so awkward to be the Black guy and not know the Usher song. I was listening to Rage Against the Machine at the time, sorry everybody.’ The correct answer, revealed by Jennings, was ‘What is ‘Yeah.’’

The incorrect guesses cost Greenfield and Luddington $1,500 each. ‘Yeah!’ featuring Ludacris and Lil Jon, was the lead single from Usher’s album Confessions and spent 12 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of the biggest hits of the decade.

Bell later redeemed himself by correctly answering a clue about the first hardcore rap album to reach No. 1 on Billboard, identifying the group N.W.A. He advanced to the semi-finals with $11,009 in winnings.

The episode also saw the contestants struggle with other questions, including identifying John Legend‘s ‘All of Me,’ Eleanor Roosevelt as the longest-serving First Lady, and the pitchfork in Grant Wood‘s American Gothic. Bell’s victory secured his spot in the next round, while Greenfield and Luddington were eliminated.

Celebrity Jeopardy airs weekly on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
