Cellcom Outage Disrupts Voice and SMS Services for Customers

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WLUK) — A significant outage has left Cellcom customers unable to make calls or send text messages since Wednesday night. The company reported ongoing service disruptions due to network issues that started around 9 p.m. on May 15, 2025.
In a statement on Friday, Cellcom acknowledged the difficulties the outage has caused for individuals, families, and businesses. “This outage has impacted our voice customers across our service area. We know how disruptive this has been and we are treating it with the urgency it deserves,” the company said.
Cellcom’s technical teams have been working around the clock to resolve the issue, though no exact timeline for restoration has been provided. The company expressed gratitude for the community’s patience during this challenging time.
Ashwaubenon Village Manager Joel Gregozeski noted that the outage affected the municipality’s ability to conduct business, as they rely on Cellcom’s parent company, Nsight, for their landlines. “It can be a challenge when we’re trying to make outgoing calls and we can’t reach anyone,” he said. Despite the difficulties, Gregozeski reassured the public that 911 services remained fully operational.
Small businesses like Pulaski Warehouse have also felt the impact. Owner Andrea Downey mentioned that the outage occurred during their busiest season, leading to confusion for customers trying to place orders. “They don’t know why they can’t reach us on the phone, which is unfortunate,” she said. In the absence of phone service, she has turned to email and Facebook Messenger to maintain communication.
Cellcom has advised customers to utilize data services and applications that do not rely on voice connectivity, such as WhatsApp and FaceTime, until normal service resumes. Meanwhile, the company continues to prioritize restoring essential voice and SMS services as quickly and responsibly as possible.
The situation remains fluid, and Cellcom promises to keep customers informed of any updates regarding service restoration.
