Celtics Exercise Baylor Scheierman’s Team Option for 2026-27 Season
BOSTON, Massachusetts — The Boston Celtics are retaining forward Baylor Scheierman for the 2026-27 NBA season, exercising his $2.74 million team option on Thursday. This decision was made ahead of the Friday deadline, as confirmed by multiple reports.
As the 30th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Scheierman has not seen extensive playtime this season, averaging only 8.5 minutes across four games and scoring a total of three points. He currently ranks just above Jordan Walsh in minutes played for the Celtics, trailing teammates Sam Hauser and Josh Minott in head coach Joe Mazzulla‘s rotation.
Despite limited action, Mazzulla has praised Scheierman’s defensive skills, particularly after the team’s recent victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. “I thought even Baylor’s five or six possessions on Donovan Mitchell, he executed the game plan,” Mazzulla stated. He emphasized the importance of having a strong rotation and expressed confidence in the team’s overall development.
With the option exercised, the Celtics now have eight players secured for next season, in addition to pending team options for Minott, Neemias Queta, and Walsh. The 25-year-old Scheierman aims to prove his worth as a valuable contributor as the Celtics strive to build a championship-caliber team around star players Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
As of now, Boston prepares for a rematch against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday, following their earlier loss in this season’s opener.
