Chaos Awaits in ‘Wildgate’: A New Sci-Fi Shooter Experience

LOS ANGELES, CA — Players are gearing up for an intense experience with the upcoming space-faring shooter, ‘Wildgate.’ Developed by Moonshot Games, the game blends player-versus-environment (PvE) and player-versus-player (PvP) objectives, offering a mix of combat and exploration on foot and in massive starships.
‘Wildgate’ engages five teams of four players in a competitive space heist with matches lasting from 20 to 40 minutes. Each session invites players to delve into procedurally generated worlds, gathering resources and fighting off enemies as they seek to secure valuable artifacts hidden throughout the galaxy.
Throughout gameplay, players will explore miniature dungeons, collecting upgrades such as powerful turrets, improved ship shields, and additional weaponry. “Every time you find an Artifact, the other teams are notified of your location, turning the match into a frantic race against each other,” said game designer Jason. The urgency is palpable, as teams must defend themselves while attempting to reach the elusive Wildgate for victory.
According to Moonshot, players can respawn infinitely until their ship is destroyed, raising the stakes in ship-to-ship combat. This encourages high levels of cooperation among team members, who must share responsibilities such as piloting and manning weapons. “Ship combat becomes a chaotic dance,” Jason added, highlighting the emphasis on collaborative strategy.
Participants in ‘Wildgate’ may also adopt various combat styles. For a stealthy approach, players can utilize jetpacks to board enemy ships or set traps that cause havoc among rival crews while they are distracted. “All’s fair in love and space piracy,” remarked one player during a preview session. “You can blow up enemy ships when they least expect it.”
After an action-packed preview lasting over six hours, players expressed surprise at the game’s depth. “I felt like I was just beginning to master strategies and tactics,” one player said, emphasizing the learning curve in leveraging the game’s mechanics.
‘Wildgate’ aims to release with powerful character options, including Mophs, a birdlike character that can turn invisible while boarding enemy ships, enhancing opportunities for surprise mechanics. The game’s artistic style draws familiar comparisons to former Blizzard titles.
Moonshot Games, founded by Mike Morhaime, a former Blizzard executive, is fueling excitement with a Community Preview playtest scheduled for April 14, 2025, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. Players eager to join can register on the official website.
The core narrative of ‘Wildgate’ unfolds within a rich sci-fi universe called the Accord, a coalition that spans much of the galaxy. Here, players adopt the role of Prospectors, determined to recover ancient artifacts in a volatile sector known as the Typhon Reach, teeming with danger and opportunity. “Ultimately, it’s about crafting memorable stories in an engaging universe,” said designer Dustin Browder.
The game emphasizes exploration and unpredictability at its core, providing every match with its own unique challenges. “As you engage in skirmishes, every player is vying for advantages, and the possibility of a surprising reversal keeps everyone on edge,” Jason stated.
‘Wildgate’ is set for release later this year, and early impressions suggest it could capture the interest of fans searching for new multiplayer adventures.
