AUSTIN, Texas – The highly anticipated sequel, ‘Another Simple Favor,’ premiered as the opening night movie during SXSW in March 2025 and is now available for streaming on Prime Video as of May 1, 2025, at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT. Directed by Paul Feig, the film follows the chaotic journey of Emily (Blake Lively) and Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) as they navigate a wedding in Capri filled with twists, murder, and an array of stunning outfits.

The sequel picks up with Emily surprisingly out on bail, calling her loyal friend Stephanie to be her maid of honor. The backdrop is a luxurious Italian wedding to the handsome and enigmatic Dante Versano (Michele Morrone), who raises red flags right from the start. As the plot unfolds, viewers are taken on a wild adventure filled with blackmail, double-crosses, and enough absurdities to keep them guessing.

The film features familiar faces, including Henry Golding as Sean, Stephanie’s ex-husband, who serves as the bitter comic relief. Critics have pointed out that while the film retains some charm, it ultimately falls victim to classic sequel syndrome, being louder and twistier but lacking the sharp wit of its predecessor.

Returning actors such as Andrew Rannells and new additions like Allison Janney and Elizabeth Perkins enrich the story, although some characters feel underutilized. Feig’s direction has drawn comparisons to titles like ‘Clue’ and ‘Killing Eve’, blending various genres without anchoring in one clear tone.

Despite its muddled plot, which some critics describe as chaotic, the film has been praised for its visual appeal. Cinematographer John Schwartzman captures the stunning scenery of Capri beautifully, inviting audiences into a world of glamour, high fashion, and absurdity.

Critics have given mixed reviews, with Variety film critic Owen Gleiberman likening it to “like ‘Knives Out’ crossed with a cartoon gloss on ‘White Lotus,’” though noting the movie has “more twists and less fun.” Nonetheless, fans of the original may enjoy this luxurious escapism and the outrageous fashion statements, making it a fitting if not entirely cohesive follow-up to ‘A Simple Favor.’

In the end, while ‘Another Simple Favor’ may not recapture the same magic as its predecessor, it serves up a stylish, over-the-top experience that viewers can indulge in, preferably while sipping a glass of wine.
