KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City is buzzing as pop star Chappell Roan is set to perform two sold-out concerts on the southeast lawn of the National World War I Museum and Memorial this Friday and Saturday. The shows are expected to attract around 30,000 fans, marking a significant event in the city’s music scene.
The excitement kicks off with a pre-party Thursday night at Switchback on Incline in the West Bottoms, where fans can gather starting at 7 p.m. The event features back-to-back Chappell songs and is open to those 18 and older.
Local business owner Lance Pierce, co-owner of Q Kansas City, expressed the community’s enthusiasm. “Having Chappell Roan coming to Kansas City is like having royalty visit for the queer community,” he said. He emphasizes the welcoming atmosphere for out-of-town visitors as they celebrate her performances.
The festivities don’t stop there; Q Kansas City will host a costume contest on Friday with a chance to win a $500 prize. After Saturday’s concert, they will present a “Pink Pony Rodeo” emceed by a participant from RuPaul’s Drag Race, a highlight for fans after the shows.
Businesses citywide are also joining in on the celebrations. For instance, Cafe Corazón has released a “Midwest Princess” latte to honor Roan, while Cookie Bliss KC reports incredible demand for their themed cookies. Owner Karissa Todd noted that orders surged after announcing the treats.
Additionally, the Kansas City Streetcar Authority revealed a Chappell Roan-themed streetcar named the “Pink Pony Express,” which will run for two weeks, further promoting the festive spirit throughout the city.
Roan, a Missouri native whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, gained popularity with her debut album and is now recognized as a significant figure in pop music. Her concerts are part of her “Visions of Damsels and Dangerous Things” tour, which also includes stops in New York and Los Angeles.
With local businesses enthusiastically participating in this cultural moment, the expected economic impact is substantial, with reports predicting $13.8 million in revenue generated by the concerts. Visitors can look forward to a weekend filled with joy and connection, reinforcing Kansas City’s vibrant community spirit.
For those attending, it is recommended to check for venue maps and bag policies ahead of the concerts. With the entire city rallying around Roan’s visit, attendees can expect a warm Midwest welcome.
