Charley Crockett Album Release Concert

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas singer-songwriter Charley Crockett released his major label debut album, “Lonesome Drifter,” this week, marking a significant milestone in his burgeoning career in country music. Recorded in just ten days at Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles, the album features 12 tracks that embody Crockett’s signature blend of traditional country and Americana.

Crockett’s path to this moment has been a remarkable journey. Over the past decade, the Texas-born artist has released 14 albums as an independent musician. His big break occurred after he handed a homemade CD to Evan Felker, lead singer of the Turnpike Troubadours, outside Gruene Hall. Felker then connected Crockett with his booking agent at Red 11 Music, Jon Folk, which ultimately led to a partnership with the independent label Thirty Tigers.

In a shift from his independent roots, Crockett almost signed with Columbia Records, home to legends like Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan. However, he chose Island Records at the last minute, securing ownership of his master tapes and full creative control over his music. “Lonesome Drifter” features the title track alongside notable songs like “Games I Can’t Win,” “Easy Money,” and “Under Neon Lights,” showcasing the sound that has garnered him a devoted following.

The album closes with the classic “Amarillo By Morning,” originally made famous by George Strait in 1982, a fitting tribute to Crockett’s musical influences. He recently performed this track at the Houston and Austin rodeos.

In a recent interview with Billboard Magazine, Crockett revealed that he has already penned two follow-up albums, indicating a relentless drive for creativity. New listeners are encouraged to experience his evolution beginning with “Lonesome Drifter,” before exploring his extensive back catalog.

This spring, he is set to make a television appearance on “Austin City Limits” on April 1. Furthermore, Crockett will co-headline shows with Leon Bridges at The Woodlands on Sept. 21 and at the Moody Center in Austin on Sept. 23. Fans can stay updated with his journey by signing up for notifications on his official website.

In addition to Crockett’s milestone, fellow Texas artist Parker McCollum announced his own forthcoming major album, set for release on June 27. Following three consecutive sold-out performances at Rodeo Houston, McCollum expressed gratitude to his supporters and introduced his wife and their son Major from the stage.

Teaming up again with prominent songwriters such as Jon Randall and Lori McKenna, McCollum’s upcoming self-titled album is said to channel the sound reminiscent of his previous works, including “Limestone Kid” and “Probably Wrong.” He will embark on a nationwide tour beginning April 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, returning to Texas for several shows, including appearances at the Cattle Country Festival in Gonzales on April 12 and the Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas on July 19.

Amidst these album launches, the Brauntex Theatre will host “End of the Rainbow” this weekend, showcasing the final concert tour of Judy Garland, another music icon. The performances will highlight Garland’s impactful career and are set for Friday and Saturday.

Moreover, local venues are buzzing with upcoming performances, including Carson Jeffrey at Gruene Hall and Gary Allan at the Whitewater Amphitheater. This vibrant musical season promises fans an array of concerts to enjoy, showcasing both established and emerging talents.
