Pop sensation Charli XCX has expressed her admiration for The 1975‘s frontman, Matty Healy, as they collaborate on her upcoming remix album ‘Brat’. During an interview with Zane Lowe on The Zane Lowe Show, Charli XCX discussed Healy’s contribution to the album, set to be released on October 11, and shared insights into their friendship and creative partnership.

Matty Healy, known for his bold artistic decisions, is scheduled to appear alongside Charli XCX on a reimagined version of her track ‘I Might Say Something Stupid’. The British singer, whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison, revealed, “He’s like my brother now, and I hope he wouldn’t mind me saying this, but I have an endless amount of respect for him as a songwriter and him as a person, but I sometimes want to strangle him.”

Charli XCX, who is currently engaged to The 1975 drummer George Daniel, praised the band’s willingness to take risks. She remarked on Healy’s approach to their creative outputs, describing it as “very, very holistic”. She further stated, “I just really enjoy people who take a risk in terms of what they’re putting out there artistically. I think that show is a little divisive, but I think great art is divisive.”

The discussion also touched on Healy’s controversial move during a live performance in Malaysia, where he spoke against anti-homosexuality laws and kissed a male band member on stage. This action led to the cancellation of the Good Vibes Festival by organizers Future Sound Asia, who subsequently sued the band for £1.9 million over the breach of contract.

Despite the controversy, Charli XCX continued to praise The 1975’s approach, indicating a deep appreciation for their work and artistic risks. “Even before being with George, years and years ago, I’ve always been such a fan of their work,” she explained.

The remixed version of Charli XCX’s album ‘Brat’, featuring contributions from a host of artists, including Matty Healy, is eagerly anticipated by fans and promises to deliver an innovative musical experience.
