Cherry Healey, a 43-year-old documentary maker, has attributed a significant personal transformation to her participation in the television programme, Channel 4‘s ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins‘. Healey has credited the experience with empowering her to leave a ‘farcical’ relationship with her ex-boyfriend, showcasing the profound impact the show had on her self-confidence.

Speaking to a magazine, Healey described how the intense challenges of the show, which included adrenaline-pumping tasks such as jumping out of a helicopter, influenced her mindset. “It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done,” she stated. “When I came back, I’d been dating this guy who was full of shenanigans—classic rubbish behaviour. I was really infatuated. But after the show, I thought, ‘there’s no way I’m going to jump out of a helicopter and then continue with this absolute farce.'”

Healey is not the first to experience relationship changes after participating in the show. Last year’s winner ended her engagement shortly after the series concluded filming in New Zealand. However, Cherry Healey has since found happiness with new partner Justin Mountstephens, aligning with her lifestyle as a fellow fitness enthusiast.

The experience on ‘Celebrity SAS’ was one Healey embraced wholeheartedly, despite having initial reservations. She admitted that, although she had been a long-time fan of the show familiar with its demanding tasks, the timing was perfect for her to embark on such a challenge. “It was really interesting when I got the call, I actually didn’t really have to think about it very hard. It was an almost immediate yes,” she recalled.

Healey’s decision was also influenced by her family situation. A mother of two, she shares children Coco, 15, and Edward, 11, with ex-husband Rory Allen. With her children becoming more independent, she expressed a desire to take on physical challenges to push herself further, especially as a perimenopause advocate.

The opportunity to join the show seemingly came at an opportune moment for Healey. She described a conversation with a friend just days before the offer, in which she expressed a need for a significant challenge, beyond something like a marathon, which did not appeal to her. “I need something bigger than that, something huge,” she explained. Coincidentally, the chance to participate in ‘Celebrity SAS’ arose soon after.
