Chevy Chase Unveils Bloody Makeup for Latest Film Role

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Chevy Chase surprised fans with a comically gruesome image on Instagram Friday, showcasing a bloody face and a black eye. The post announced his latest role in a film titled Catnip the Movie, described as a horror/comedy Christmas flick about murderous felines.
Chase, known for his slapstick comedy style and pratfalls, captioned the post with appreciation for the film’s makeup team, stating, “Just shot a film called @catnipthemovie and here are some of the wonderful people that worked on it!” The image drew immediate reactions on social media, combining Chase’s classic humor with a touch of horror.
Despite the playful nature of the film, Chase’s history includes a string of unfortunate injuries connected to his physical comedy routines. Notably, during his tenure on Saturday Night Live, he famously opened each episode with a fall, a practice that would eventually lead to serious back issues and a stint in rehab during the 1980s.
According to The New York Times, Chase sought treatment for a dependency on prescription drugs linked to his chronic back problems, which stemmed from years of performing stunts. In a past interview, a fellow comedian recalled Chase as one of the more challenging hosts, stating, “The worst host was Chevy Chase. I don’t know if he was on something or what.”
Chase’s most painful incident reportedly occurred in a skit where he fell over a poorly padded podium while impersonating former President Gerald Ford, adding to his collection of mishaps with unintended consequences.
Recently, it seems that Chase’s comedic injuries and antics have been a hallmark of his career, both on and off-screen. This latest project, Catnip the Movie, appears to draw on his legacy, blending comedy’s darker elements while showcasing Chase’s unique style.
Next up for Chase is a cameo in Tim Allen’s upcoming comedy series Shifting Gears, set to air on March 12. Fans can look forward to seeing Leno and Chase reunite in a scripted, lighthearted take on classic car culture and friendship.
