Chevy Reveals New Cup Series Body Amid Competition
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For the upcoming season, Chevrolet plans to unveil a new body for its NASCAR Cup Series cars, aiming to enhance performance against competitors Ford and Toyota. Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, believes the new design will surpass the current Chevy model.
As Ford and Toyota prepare to roll out their new body designs for the 2024 season, Chevy has faced challenges keeping up. “Well, I think our guys, along with GM, have worked on this, and it’s supposedly better than what we’ve got,” Hendrick stated. He noted that the upcoming Chevy body would draw closer to the performance achieved by Ford and Toyota.
While Hendrick Motorsports has enjoyed successes on the track, the organization has seen a decrease in race victories lately. Hendrick expressed optimism, highlighting increased power and downforce in the new Chevy design. “Next year, we gotta learn the car; it won’t be perfect right out of the gate. I’m super excited about the power and having a new car that we can work with that’s got a little more downforce,” he said.
This season has seen the Chevrolet Camaro phased out, as its production has ceased. Although the ZL1 branding persisted in NASCAR, the model’s absence from consumer production raised questions about its future in racing. As Chevy looks to introduce a new model, it aims to bolster its competitive edge in the Cup Series.
The additional downforce could provide the necessary advantage for Chevy teams to reclaim their footing, especially as competitors like Trackhouse and Richard Childress Racing have faced difficulties in recent seasons. The ultimate question remains whether this new Chevy will equip drivers like Kyle Busch to compete effectively once more.
