CHICAGO, Ill. — The upcoming episode of NBC‘s *Chicago P.D.*, titled “Zoe,” airing Wednesday, January 22, delves into the personal and professional challenges faced by Officer Adam Ruzek, played by Patrick John Flueger. The episode centers on an emotional investigation involving an unidentified young girl and the unexpected arrival of Ruzek’s father, Bob, which disrupts his life both at work and at home.

The case involves an eight-year-old girl named Zoe, portrayed by Annabelle Toomy, whose circumstances resonate deeply with Ruzek. Flueger explained, “On some level, the case reminds him of his daughter, Makayla, and a child lost in the world of adults. He takes it personally and connects with her immediately due to the extreme circumstances.” The investigation becomes a personal mission for Ruzek, who feels compelled to ensure the girl’s safety.

Meanwhile, Ruzek’s father, Bob, arrives unannounced, creating tension in his relationship with Kim Burgess, played by Marina Squerciati. Flueger noted, “Bob’s a single parent who made sacrifices to raise Adam and his sister. They have a special relationship, but Bob’s flaws, like his gambling issues, often cause problems.” Burgess, while caring for Bob, has less patience for his behavior, leading to conflicts as Ruzek tries to balance his responsibilities to his family and his father.

The episode also features Amy Morton as Trudy Platt, who joins the investigation after a startling confession from a child. The promo video hints at a dark and emotional storyline, with Zoe revealing she has had multiple mothers and step-siblings, most of whom are deceased.

Flueger shared insights into Ruzek’s dynamic with Burgess, stating, “Kim cares about Bob through Adam, but his unexpected visits, often tied to needing money or solving a problem, create friction. Adam gets caught between taking care of his immediate family and his dad.”

Fans can expect a character-driven episode that explores themes of parenting, personal responsibility, and the complexities of family relationships. *Chicago P.D.* airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC.
