Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. See Streaming Boost Amid Budget Cuts

Chicago, IL — NBC‘s popular series Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. are experiencing a surge in streaming viewers following their recent renewals, despite the network’s controversial plans to cut budgets.
Both shows have climbed the ranks on Peacock‘s Top 10 list in the United States this week. Chicago P.D. moved from the 10th spot on June 13 to #5 today, while Chicago Fire rose from #10 on June 12 to #6 today.
These shows are a significant success for NBC, often dominating TV ratings and drawing high streaming numbers. As NBC works to reduce costs amid budget cuts, both series are rumored to limit screen time for some regular cast members and forgo annual raises. Fans may be at risk of losing beloved characters if contract negotiations fail.
Chicago Fire, the original series of the franchise that premiered in 2012, revolves around the lives of firefighters and rescue professionals at Firehouse 51. It has aired over 270 episodes and remains a fan favorite.
Chicago P.D. followed in 2013, focusing on the patrol officers of the Chicago Police Department. The show recently concluded its Season 12 finale, which disappointed some viewers, lacking the payoff they anticipated.
Despite the challenges ahead, showrunner Andrea Newman reassured fans by stating, “We haven’t sat down for Season 14 yet. We don’t know what we’re going to do.” Meanwhile, showrunner Gwen Sigan hinted at a fresh outlook for characters when Season 13 kicks off, commenting, “I definitely think Burgess will approach the job differently.”
The interconnected Chicago universe, created by Dick Wolf, also includes Chicago Med. Viewers can currently stream Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. on Peacock.
