Chicago Fire Pauses Ahead of Chief Boden’s Explosive Return

CHICAGO, Ill. — Fans of NBC‘s popular series Chicago Fire will have to wait one extra week for new episodes as the show takes a brief hiatus. The series, which follows the heroic firefighters of Firehouse 51, will return with fresh content on April 16, 2025, at 9/8c.
Season 13 has seen increasing drama and action, captivating audiences with its combination of thrilling rescue missions and intricate personal stories. Chief Wallace Boden, played by Eamonn Walker, is set to return next week in an eagerly anticipated episode titled “Post-Mortem,” where he will investigate a dangerous firefight that leaves one of the crew in jeopardy.
“We have laughed hard. We laugh hard every day on this show,” Walker told NBC Insider in a November 2024 interview. “That’s why the crew has stayed. Everybody that could possibly stay stays because it’s a beautiful set.”
However, the excitement will have to build a bit longer as all three One Chicago series are re-airing episodes this week instead of premiering new ones. Viewers can catch older episodes beginning with Chicago Med’s Halloween episode, followed by Chicago Fire’s fifth episode of season 13, and Chicago P.D.’s fifth episode of season 12, all scheduled for April 9, 2025.
The decision to air reruns is common practice for networks, especially in spring, allowing them to manage their episode schedules effectively leading into season finales. NBC has not yet announced a finale date, but this break will enable continuous airings until mid-May.
After the hiatus, audiences can expect pivotal developments in each series. Chicago Fire will continue to explore the personal struggles of Chief Dom Pascal as he copes with the loss of his wife, Monica, while the other Chicago shows promise similar intensity. Following a dramatic series of events, including character arcs focused on grief and personal trials, viewers are eagerly awaiting the reunions and confrontations awaiting them.
“We goof around the whole time,” actor Patrick Flueger, who plays Adam Ruzek, shared, emphasizing the camaraderie on set. “If we didn’t goof around, I don’t know how it would be survivable.”
With less than five episodes remaining this season, the anticipation is palpable, especially with Boden’s pivotal return on the horizon. The wait will soon be over, as fans will have the chance to see how the threads of each storyline come together when the series return on April 16.
