WACO, TexasChip Gaines took swift action after a snake made an unexpected visit to his garden. On May 6, his wife Joanna posted a video on Instagram showing the couple’s beautiful garden when Chip emerged from a shed, brandishing a rat snake on a stick.

Joanna, co-founder of Magnolia Home, captioned the post, “It was such a pretty evening in the garden until 🐍😳. Thank you for relocating the rat snake!” The video was set to the Foo Fighters‘ hit song, “My Hero.” Fans on social media praised Chip’s calm handling of the situation. One user commented, “I love how insanely comfortable Chip looks doing this. He might as well be picking up a piece of laundry!”

Another viewer remarked on Chip’s pride, stating, “And he looks so proud 😂🙌.” Some viewers noted that snakes, like the one Chip removed, indicate a healthy ecosystem. One commenter explained, “This is a sign of health in your garden. Find a sunny spot and put a flat stone for them to warm themselves. They will keep all of the pests and rodents away.”

Rat snakes, commonly found in woodlands and near farms, can grow up to eight feet long but are non-venomous. They are generally harmless unless threatened.

In March 2024, Joanna shared more about their garden journey on the Magnolia blog. “It’s not like me to invest in transitory things. I thrive on consistency and certainty. And yet, we have a garden on our farm,” she wrote. Joanna detailed how their garden has transformed over time, evolving from a simple vegetable patch to a cherished outdoor space.
