Chris Claremont Reveals Major Spoilers for Avengers Movies

Huntsville, AL – Legendary comic book writer Chris Claremont recently dropped significant spoilers for upcoming Marvel movies during a panel at the Huntsville Pop Culture Expo 2025. Claremont, best known for his work on the X-Men comics, hinted at exciting details regarding Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Attending an event packed with fans, Claremont shared insights that suggest his extensive knowledge and experience in the comic industry could provide clues to the unfolding Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He indicated that the films could draw elements from his iconic X-Men stories.
Among his revelations, Claremont announced that Robert Downey Jr. will return as multiple characters in Avengers: Doomsday. “It’s already known RDJ will be back as Doctor Doom, but he’s also playing two other roles,” Claremont said, creating buzz among fans eager for more details.
He also mentioned that Chris Evans will reprise his role as Captain America but will additionally play Captain Hydra. “It’s like, why didn’t they just cast the original Avengers as all the characters?” Claremont joked, implying that fan favorites will have exciting new arcs.
Furthermore, Claremont confirmed Elizabeth Olsen would return as Scarlet Witch despite previously denying her involvement. “Apparently, she’s coming back as a good Scarlet Witch,” he added, hinting at potential twists regarding her character.
Adding to the surprise, Claremont stated that Famke Janssen, who portrayed Jean Grey, will return as Phoenix. He noted that one of Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s favorite stories is The Phoenix Saga, further raising expectations about the upcoming films.
Claremont also emphasized the return of Psylocke, with a notable twist that the character will no longer be Asian. This statement raises questions about the casting choices as Olivia Munn, who previously played Psylocke, may not reprise her role.
In a more dramatic turn, Claremont teased a rumor that Wolverine will kill off an important character, sparking speculation about the narrative direction of the films. “Why are you going to make us wait three years for the first X-Men movie?” he questioned, implying a desire for immediate storytelling.
Claremont’s comments on the Fantastic Four confirmed that the MCU will not feature an origin story, as they have been part of the universe for several years already. “The FF will have been around for four years when they run into Galactus,” he explained, building anticipation for their integration into the MCU.
With Avengers: Doomsday set to release on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027, fans are eager for further announcements. Filming is currently underway in the UK under the direction of the Russo brothers.
