NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Chris O'Donnell has been cast as the lead in the upcoming spinoff series “9-1-1: Nashville,” set to debut during the 2025-2026 broadcast season. The news, confirmed by Variety on March 17, 2025, marks O’Donnell’s return to procedural dramas following his role in “NCIS: Los Angeles.”

In “9-1-1: Nashville,” O’Donnell will portray Captain Don Sharpe, a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who manages Nashville’s busiest firehouse alongside his son. He is described as a devoted family man with hidden secrets, indicating a complex character for the new series.

This project comes as part of the ongoing expansion of the “9-1-1” franchise, originally created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear. It follows the cancellation of “9-1-1: Lone Star,” which aired for five seasons, concluding in February 2025.

“Nashville feels like the right place for our next story,” said Bob Rains, executive director of the Tennessee Entertainment Commission. “The community has been extremely supportive, and we’re pleased to see the series being picked up by ABC.”

O’Donnell’s casting marks his first regular role since “NCIS: Los Angeles” ended after 14 successful seasons. He expressed gratitude for his time on the show, stating, “I’m just so grateful for the opportunity and the success … and for the friends that I made along the way.”

“9-1-1: Nashville” will also feature Murphy, Bassett, Minear, and Rashad Raisani as executive producers, with production by 20th Television. Details regarding the show’s premiere date and additional cast members have yet to be announced.

O’Donnell’s work extends beyond television; he is known for his roles in classic films such as “Scent of a Woman,” “Batman Forever,” and “Fried Green Tomatoes.” With a mix of film and television experience, his return to series television is highly anticipated.

The original “9-1-1” series is currently airing its eighth season on ABC, with weekly episodes taking place every Thursday at 8 p.m. EST.
