Chris Jericho Open to WWE Return Amid AEW Championship Defense

TULSA, Okla. — Chris Jericho, the current Ring of Honor World Champion, hinted at a potential return to WWE during a recent appearance at the Horror Rock and Wrestle Fest event. When asked about revisiting his past with WWE, Jericho indicated he was open to the idea, provided the circumstances are right.
“I would have considered a return to WWE before things changed,” Jericho said. “Once again, there are two teams you can play on, which is amazing, and it’s one of the reasons why I wanted to take a chance and go to AEW in the first place. It was a real gamble,” he added.
The 54-year-old wrestler, who has been with AEW since its debut in 2019, is set to defend his title against Bandido later tonight at AEW Dynasty in a Title vs. Mask match. Jericho, who was the first AEW World Champion, noted that any decision to return to WWE would depend on his situation at the time.
“Of course, I would consider going back there [WWE]. I would also consider not going back there too. It just depends on what the situation is and what’s going on with me at the time,” he explained.
Jericho’s comments come at a time when he continues to flourish in AEW, where he has established himself as a significant figure in professional wrestling. His statements have ignited speculation about his future, especially as his current AEW contract is set to expire in December 2025.
AEW’s upcoming event, AEW Dynasty, will feature Jericho’s championship match against Bandido. WrestleZone will provide live coverage of the event, showcasing the excitement surrounding this title defense.
In response to Jericho’s potential return to WWE, fans have taken to social media to express their opinions. Some are enthusiastic about the idea, recalling his previous runs with the company, while others urge him to remain in AEW, where he has played a pivotal role in redefining professional wrestling.
As Jericho prepares for his championship bout tonight, the prospect of him returning to WWE adds an intriguing element to his already storied career. With his history in WWE spanning 15 years before his move to AEW, many are eager to see what the future holds for the wrestling superstar.
