Christina Aguilera Spotify Event

Christina Aguilera commemorated the 25th anniversary of her debut album, “Christina Aguilera,” at Spotify‘s Music Studios in Los Angeles this week. The event featured notable collaborations with rising star Sabrina Carpenter and musician Machine Gun Kelly. During the “Live Spotify Anniversaries” episode, Aguilera invited Carpenter on stage to perform a reimagined version of her hit “What a Girl Wants.” Carpenter opened the song before the artists joined in a duet, backed by a live band.

Carpenter expressed her excitement during the session, recalling her early admiration for Aguilera. “I think the first time I ever heard your voice was [when] my mom played me a video of you singing at eight years old, ‘A Sunday Kind of Love,’” Carpenter shared. “That was the most inspiring thing for me ever to see as a young girl that wanted to sing but didn’t think I could do it at that age.”

The studio event also featured Machine Gun Kelly, who accompanied Aguilera on guitar for another of her breakout singles, “Genie in a Bottle.” “Got to rock with a legend wtf,” Kelly commented about the experience on social media.

In addition to these performances, Aguilera reunited with producer Ron Fair and songwriter Heather Holley, both of whom contributed to the original album’s recording. They performed “Obvious,” a ballad created over 25 years ago by Holley and Aguilera.

Aguilera is set to release a six-track EP recorded live from Spotify’s Music Studios, capturing the enduring appeal of her debut album, which won her the Grammy for Best New Artist in 2000. Reflecting on this milestone, Aguilera told Rolling Stone, “I wanted to celebrate the 25th anniversary of my debut album in a way that brings together the past and present. I’ve always enjoyed reimagining my songs with different styles and audiences.”

“Recording this project with Spotify was both magical and nostalgic,” Aguilera added. “I laughed, I cried, I reconnected with old friends, and I made some very special new ones. I hope this anniversary gift is just as special for you to watch, as it was for me to make.”
