AUSTIN, Texas — Actress Christy Carlson Romano is recovering after being hospitalized due to a shooting accident that took place on February 7. The incident occurred while Romano, 40, was celebrating her husband Brendan Rooney‘s 42nd birthday by taking him to shoot clay pigeons.
Romano shared details of the unfortunate event in a social media post. ‘There was another party with us, and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face,’ she wrote, alongside a video showing injuries to her right eye and forehead.
Romano described being hit in five places during the incident, with one injury coming less than an inch from her right eye. ‘Unfortunately, a fragment got lodged behind my eye, and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time,’ she explained. Doctors are monitoring her condition, noting that she can currently see normally.
Following the shooting, Romano’s husband quickly acted, assessing her injuries and rushing her to the hospital. ‘He immediately sprung into action,’ she shared. ‘I saw my life flash before my eyes, and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant.’
In an emotional reflection, Romano expressed her gratitude for surviving the ordeal. ‘I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much,’ she said. ‘All I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive.’
Romano also thanked the medical staff and first responders who assisted her, calling them ‘superhero-like people to take care of us at our most desperate times.’ In response to her post, Rooney praised his wife’s strength, stating, ‘You are the bravest, toughest, most stoic and badass woman I have ever met. I am so thankful you are alive.’
Romano and Rooney, who have been married for over 11 years, share two daughters, Isabella Victoria and Sophia Elizabeth. The couple’s celebratory trip took a traumatic turn, but Romano’s recovery continues to draw attention to the importance of safety during recreational shooting events.
As of now, Romano remains thankful for her family and the support she has received, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of life. ‘Everything’s kinda clearing out,’ she noted in her update. ‘But got to say I got shot in the face and lived to tell the tale. Be grateful for every day.’
