CINCINNATI — Quarterback Brendan Sorsby has been named a semifinalist for the 2025 Davey O'Brien Award, recognizing him as one of the top college football quarterbacks in the nation. The announcement was made earlier this week.

Since its inception in 1985, the Davey O’Brien Award has celebrated the best quarterbacks in collegiate football. Sorsby, a junior from Denton, Texas, has stood out this season, boasting a 7-2 record while completing 144 of 237 passes for 2,064 yards, 21 touchdowns, and only two interceptions.

In addition to his passing success, Sorsby has showcased his versatility by rushing for 453 yards and adding eight touchdowns on the ground. His total of 29 touchdowns ties him for second in the country, just behind Indiana‘s Fernando Mendoza, who has 31.

Sorsby’s performance has been a key factor in the Bearcats’ strong season. He joins other Cincinnati standout players—Antwan Peek Jr., a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, and Jake Golday, a semifinalist for the Butkus Award—as representatives of UC in the national conversation for individual accolades.

The full list of semifinalists for the Davey O’Brien Award includes Luke Altmyer of Illinois, Bear Bachmeier from BYU, and others, totaling 20 players recognized for their outstanding performances this season. The finalists will be determined based on votes from the selection committee and fan votes, which are announced on November 21.

As the college football season progresses, the Bearcats look to build on their achievements and continue to make headlines.
