Elex Michaelson New Cnn Show

LOS ANGELES, CA – October 24, 2025 – CNN has announced the premiere of a new nighttime news program titled “The Story Is” with Elex Michaelson. The show is set to debut on October 27 at midnight Eastern, airing from the network’s Los Angeles bureau. The two-hour program will run until 2 a.m. Eastern time.

Michaelson, a well-known Los Angeles news personality, was previously with KTTV’s Fox 11. He will be joined by California Governor Gavin Newsom for the inaugural episode, discussing the state’s upcoming redistricting vote on November 4. Other guests scheduled for the launch week include former US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA), and Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff.

“The Story Is” aims to deliver fresh content during a time when many news outlets repeat previous programming. The show will also simulcast on CNN International, aligning with mornings in Europe and midday to early afternoon in Asia.

In addition to Newsom, Michaelson will feature live nightly panels that include voices from across the political spectrum. Legal experts Gloria Allred and Areva Martin, conservative talk hosts Larry Elder and Jennifer Horn, and progressive podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen will participate, among others. Michaelson emphasized the program’s goal to promote fair and inclusive conversations.

Michaelson stated, “By going beyond the predictable talking points, The Story Is will become a source for news that breaks through, often with hope, joy, and humor. I’m thrilled to bring this show to the world from L.A.!”

The premiere week’s coverage will also include live reports on President Donald Trump’s trip to Asia and updates on the World Series in Los Angeles. Additionally, Michaelson expects to highlight various topics, including arts education alongside singer Josh Groban and a program aimed at training ex-convicts to build custom cars.

Every episode promises a new “late-night” feels as viewers engage with diverse discussions moving beyond typical news formats. Michaelson expressed confidence that important California issues often resonate on a global level, making this new show relevant beyond local news.
