CNN Live News Stream to End on HBO Max November 17

NEW YORK, NY — CNN will discontinue its 24/7 live news stream on HBO Max starting November 17, 2025. This decision comes as the network gears up to launch its own streaming service later this fall.
According to Alex MacCallum, executive vice president of digital products and services for CNN, the network has learned valuable insights from its two years of offering live news on HBO Max. “CNN has benefitted tremendously from its two years of offering a live 24/7 feed of news to HBO Max customers,” MacCallum stated. “We learned from HBO Max’s large base of subscribers what people want and enjoy the most from CNN.”
Although the live news stream will end, HBO Max will still offer a selection of CNN Originals, which include popular shows like *Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown* and *Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy*.
This change marks a shift in CNN’s strategy as it prepares to separate its streaming service from Warner Bros. Discovery’s cable networks. Discovery is also looking to enhance its own streaming offerings, potentially leading to the launch of a standalone sports platform in the future.
With the new CNN subscription service, viewers can expect a range of live channels and on-demand programming, designed to provide easier access to the network’s video content. The aim is to consolidate all offerings in one location for viewers.
The streaming landscape is evolving, and with these changes, CNN is positioning itself to better meet viewer demands. More updates are expected as the launch date approaches.
