Coldplay Kicks Off World Tour with Sold-Out Shows at Stanford Stadium

PALO ALTO, California – Coldplay rocked Stanford Stadium Saturday evening as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour. The British band performed to a sold-out crowd of over 50,000 fans, with a second show set for Sunday night. Stanford Live confirmed that both shows are completely sold out.
Fans traveled from far and wide to see Coldplay. Eric Groff, who came from Portland for his 60th birthday gift from his daughter, expressed his excitement: “We’re here, and we’re excited.” Traffic was heavy around the stadium due to street closures, leaving many fans to either pay for parking or take a leisurely walk from distance. Kanani Packer from Menlo Park opted for an Uber to avoid the congestion.
Many attendees shared a personal connection to Coldplay’s music. Mindy Brandon of Sausalito celebrated her birthday with a friend at the concert. “I’ve just always wanted to see Coldplay, such a fun, lively, exciting band,” she said. Young fan Madyson Duckart from Modesto was surprised with tickets by her mom and described the band’s music as “really great,” naming ‘Sky Full of Stars’ as her favorite song.
Raelene Muniz, who traveled from Orange County, attended to honor her late husband, who loved Coldplay. “We came here to honor him, to be here in spirit,” she recalled, adding that the concert’s location held special meaning due to her husband’s history with Stanford’s medical facilities.
While some fans couldn’t afford tickets, others gathered outside with blankets to hear the music. Henry Riccioni-Brown of Menlo Park brought snacks and said, “It’s amazing sound, even from here.” As the show culminated, a spectacular fireworks display lit up the night sky, visible from blocks away.
Coldplay’s second concert at Stanford Stadium is set to start at 5:25 p.m. on Sunday. The tour, which has broken numerous attendance records, continues in Las Vegas before heading to venues across the U.S. and the U.K. The fanfare surrounding Coldplay showcases not just their music but the community spirit they inspire.
