Collin Sexton Becomes Vocal Leader for Young Hornets Team
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Collin Sexton is stepping up as a leader for the Charlotte Hornets this season, focusing on building a winning culture within the team. Head coach Charles Lee praised Sexton’s work ethic and effective communication, noting how his efforts are inspiring his teammates. “He’s not afraid to communicate,” Lee said. “Everyone sees how hard he works every day, so he’s earned that respect. When he speaks, guys listen.”
Sexton, who joined the Hornets from Utah over the summer, believes that leadership comes naturally to him. “I’m not trying to fit in. I just have to be me,” Sexton said. “Confidence brings leadership. When things aren’t going well, you need someone who can bring the group back together, and that’s what I try to do.”
Entering the final year of a contract worth nearly $19 million, Sexton said he is focused on his daily performance rather than potential distractions from his contract situation. “I’ve got to be where my feet are,” he stated. “I can’t look two weeks ahead. I’m grounded by faith, and when I’m grounded like that, nothing’s impossible.”
Additionally, Sexton is working on building relationships with teammates like LaMelo Ball as they aim to develop a cohesive playing style. “The connection we’re forming is all about wanting to win,” he said, emphasizing their commitment to success in Charlotte.
Meanwhile, the Hornets are also dealing with the rehabilitation of another player, who has experienced setbacks in recovery from knee surgery. This situation adds another layer of challenge for the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
As the season progresses, Sexton’s performance as a leader will be crucial in maintaining team unity and intensity on the court.
