Bogotá, Colombia — Gustavo Antonio Angarita Pantoja, a renowned Colombian actor, passed away on October 17, 2025, at the age of 83. Known for his extensive career in film, television, and theater, Angarita has been celebrated as one of the greatest talents in Colombian television history.
His niece, Sandra Eichler, shared a heartfelt farewell on Instagram, saying, “Goodbye, Uncle Gustavo Angarita. Today, I bid farewell to my uncle, a great Colombian actor, sculptor of the soul and matter, and a man who lived life by his own standards.”
Eichler’s emotional post continued, expressing gratitude for Angarita’s contributions: “Thank you for your life, for your art, for paving ways and teaching us that being authentic is the most beautiful way to exist. Your legacy is carved — like your sculptures — in the memory of Colombian art and in the hearts of those who had the privilege to love you.”
Continuing her tribute, she remarked, “This is not a goodbye; it’s a see you later…”
Angarita, born on September 2, 1942, in Bogotá, enjoyed a career spanning over five decades. His notable works included appearances in popular telenovelas such as “Rasputín,” “La casa de las dos palmas,” and “Hombres,” as well as significant roles in films like “Tiempo de morir” and “La estrategia del caracol.” He was also a recipient of prestigious awards, including the India Catalina and the Simón Bolívar awards.
In April 2025, his son reported Angarita’s hospitalization due to health complications related to calcium and magnesium deficiencies, which posed risks to his heart. Although he battled cancer, he was released from medical care in May 2025 and remained under observation thereafter.
