Colt McCoy Joins Real Estate Firm HPI to Lead Fort Worth Expansion
Former University of Texas and NFL quarterback Colt McCoy has transitioned from the football field to the real estate industry, joining Texas-based firm HPI to lead its expansion into Fort Worth. The announcement, made on January 8, 2025, marks McCoy’s first major career move since retiring from professional football in 2024.
McCoy, a two-time All-American and Heisman Trophy finalist during his college career, will oversee HPI’s new Fort Worth office, focusing initially on the city’s booming industrial real estate market. “Everything we do starts with people, and Colt McCoy is the ideal leader,” said Hunter Lee, HPI partner and senior managing director. “He’s honest, community-minded, and wants to make an impact in planting the HPI flag in Fort Worth.”
McCoy, who played 13 seasons in the NFL as a backup quarterback for five teams, spent his offseasons exploring industries like finance, energy, and real estate. “I’m pretty green, but I spent a lot of offseasons in real estate, energy, and finance,” McCoy said. “I realized I really liked the guys I worked with in the real estate world. It’s a cool space, and I have great teachers around me.”
McCoy credits mentors like former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach, who successfully transitioned from football to real estate, for guiding his career shift. “I spent a lot of time talking to Roger about his transition into real estate,” McCoy said. “That has been a very close friendship.”
HPI, founded in 1992, operates in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, managing nearly 30 million square feet of property for 900 clients. The firm plans to build a full-service platform in Fort Worth, including leasing, management, development, and acquisition services. “In football, you expect to win, and it will be no different as we build out this team,” McCoy said.
Fort Worth’s industrial market has seen a 60% surge in demand since 2020, driven by logistics, manufacturing, and retail sectors. McCoy, who moved to Fort Worth with his family a year ago, said the city’s growth and community spirit made it an ideal location for his next chapter. “Fort Worth is the fastest-growing city in Texas,” he said. “It’s a great time to be here for me and my family.”
