Comedian Dane Baptiste Accused of Posting Antisemitic Death Threat
British comedian Dane Baptiste, known for his comedy shows and television appearances, is facing backlash for allegedly posting an antisemitic death threat directed at a female comic.
Several prominent figures in the British comedy community condemned Baptiste after a controversial Instagram post surfaced, where he supposedly threatened the unidentified female comedian with chilling language.
The Community Security Trust in the UK, an organization that tackles antisemitism, has been alerted to Baptiste’s message, which began with accusatory remarks towards a Zionist comedian who was stalking his family’s page.
Baptiste’s post included threatening statements, such as expressing a desire for the female comic to imagine the repercussions on her family if something were to happen to her, hinting at his proximity and intention.
The situation has escalated to involve law enforcement as the matter has been officially reported to the police for further investigation.
Ricky Gervais and David Baddiel, renowned comedians, shared posts highlighting Baptiste’s alleged threatening behavior and emphasizing the severity of threatening violence against a Jewish woman.
Another well-known comic, Marcus Brigstocke, spoke out against Baptiste’s actions, denouncing the threat as targeted, dangerous, and potentially motivated by antisemitism and misogyny.
Despite the deletion of the controversial Instagram post, it continues to circulate on social media platforms, drawing attention to Baptiste’s inflammatory remarks.
Dane Baptiste, who previously made history as the first Black British act nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Awards, has been involved in various TV projects, including the sitcom Sunny D and the pilot Bamous.
In a previous interview with the Guardian, Baptiste criticized the British comedy scene for overlooking racial and class inequalities, showing his commitment to addressing social issues through his work.
