Renowned community activist Judy Ryan, a driving force behind establishing Richmond‘s medically supervised injecting room, is scheduled to deliver a compelling talk in Ballarat next week, inspiring residents to embrace peaceful activism. The event, set to take place at Ballarat Community Health in Lucas on Thursday evening, aims to empower individuals to address societal issues proactively.

During her presentation, Ryan intends to share her personal journey as an accidental activist, encouraging attendees to reflect on potential local challenges and consider avenues for positive change. She emphasizes that activism can take various forms, from engaging with local representatives to raising awareness within the community, ultimately advocating for a better world through collective action.

Accompanying Ryan will be Dr. Adam Straub, who will shed light on pertinent drug and alcohol issues within the Ballarat region. While Ryan acknowledges the unique complexities of addiction and the importance of community-based solutions, she stresses the significance of proactive engagement and collaboration in addressing these challenges.

Hailing originally from rural Victoria, Judy Ryan’s commitment to community health was recently recognized with an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2022. Additionally, she has authored a poignant book titled ‘You Talk, We Die‘, further amplifying her advocacy efforts.

The informative session is slated for Thursday, February 29, from 5pm to 7:30pm at 12 Lilburne Street in Lucas. Interested individuals can secure their spot by booking through the provided registration link.
