The crime drama “A Confession,” which originally aired in 2019, has regained attention after being made available on Netflix and ITVX. The six-part series, starring Martin Freeman, is based on the real-life investigation of the 2011 murder of 22-year-old Sian O’Callaghan in Swindon, Wiltshire. The show follows former Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher’s pursuit of justice, which ultimately cost him his career due to breaches in police protocol.

In March 2011, Sian O’Callaghan was reported missing after failing to return home from a nightclub. Her disappearance triggered a rapid police investigation led by Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher. Fulcher believed Sian might still be alive and in imminent danger, a factor that influenced his controversial handling of the main suspect, 48-year-old taxi driver Christopher Halliwell.
