The Conners Set for Final Season Premiere on March 26

BURBANK, Calif. — ABC‘s sitcom The Conners is poised to return for its seventh and final season on Wednesday, March 26, at 8 p.m. ET. This follows an impactful 17-year presence on television, originally stemming from the show Roseanne, which first aired in 1988.
The Conners, which started as a spinoff after Roseanne’s controversial end, has seen mixed reviews compared to its predecessor. However, it remains a touchstone for working-class family representation in American television. “We treat each other with respect… we work hard… and no matter what, we stick together,” said John Goodman, who plays family patriarch Dan Conner.
Since its inception, The Conners has evolved, focusing on the dynamics of the family without the original lead, Roseanne Barr. While the first spin-off season enjoyed high ratings, the following seasons lacked the same impact, leading to less critical acclaim.
Notably, the show’s final season consists of only six episodes, the shortest in the series’ history. Major characters, including Johnny Galecki as David Healy, Michael Fishman as DJ Conner, and Estelle Parsons as Beverly Harris, are absent from these episodes, although their characters will be referenced throughout the season.
Executive producer Bruce Helford explained, “The absence of these characters allows for a deeper narrative focus on those present. Each story must highlight the evolution of the relationships within the family while establishing new connections. We do not want to bring someone back without a significant purpose in the plot.” Their decisions have prompted speculation among fans regarding the future of legacy characters.
Some series regulars, including Sara Gilbert as Darlene and Lecy Goranson as Becky, continue to play prominent roles. Gilbert’s performance as Darlene has faced criticism over recent seasons for a lack of character depth compared to her earlier portrayal.
Despite critiques, the series still showcases heartfelt moments as characters navigate life’s challenges. In a reflective tone, Goodman added, “If the kids are alive by the end of the day, we succeeded as parents. We recognize we did more than just survive.”
Viewers are invited to catch the trailer, which oscillates between nostalgia and present developments, next week. The buzz surrounding The Conners signals a blend of anticipation and nostalgia as fans prepare to say goodbye to the iconic family.
