Controversial Commentator Katie Hopkins Criticized for Mocking Kate Garraway After Husband’s Death
Katie Hopkins, a controversial commentator and former contestant on The Apprentice, is facing criticism for mocking ITV presenter Kate Garraway after the recent death of her husband, Derek Draper. Draper had been battling with long Covid, spending 13 months in the hospital after contracting the virus in March 2020.
Hopkins falsely claimed via a video on social media that ITV was planning to air a documentary titled “Life after Derek,” with Garraway releasing a book to accompany it. She laughed and mentioned, “he’s only been dead a week,” as she drank a glass of red wine. However, both claims made by Hopkins were found to be untrue.
The video, which gained more than four million views, led to widespread condemnation from various individuals, including broadcaster Lorraine King and comedian Dom Joly, who criticized Hopkins’ lack of empathy and referred to her as a “total grifter.” Furthermore, many social media users expressed their disapproval of Hopkins’ comments, describing them as “horrible.”
Katie Hopkins was permanently banned from Twitter in 2020 for her abusive and harmful conduct. She had also faced backlash in the past for making contentious remarks, resulting in her dismissal from LBC radio after comments about the Manchester Arena bombing. Known for her controversial views, including comparing migrants to cockroaches, Hopkins faced legal challenges and public outrage for her extreme statements.
Kate Garraway, who currently co-hosts Good Morning Britain, received support from various individuals following Hopkins’ comments. Notable figures such as Piers Morgan and comedian Dom Joly voiced their support for Garraway, while Blair, John, Brown, Campbell, and Kelly also expressed their condolences. Garraway plans to return to work in the future and has shared her gratitude for the support she has received during this difficult time.
