Cooper Flagg Nba Debut

DALLAS, Texas — Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd addressed the buzz surrounding rookie Cooper Flagg at the team’s media day, emphasizing the need to temper expectations regarding his immediate contributions. Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick, joins a roster rich with veteran talent, including Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis.

Kidd expressed frustration with the narrative suggesting that Irving would return ahead of schedule from a torn ACL. “When we do see [Irving] shooting, can we just refrain from saying ‘ahead of schedule?’” Kidd said. “That’s bad reporting. It’s unfair to him and to the Mavs.” Kidd clarified that while Irving is progressing well, he is not ahead of schedule.

Irving followed up, smiling as he stated, “I’m right on schedule, guys.” He noted his intention to take things day by day without setting firm targets for his return.

Jason Kidd highlighted the unique situation Flagg finds himself in, joining a team with pressing championship ambitions. “He’s coming to a team that’s established and has veteran talent, and he doesn’t have to do as much as a normal number one pick has to do,” said Davis.

Five-time All-Star Thompson, who praised Flagg’s work ethic, also recognized his readiness to learn from seasoned players. Flagg expressed feeling “blessed” to join the Mavericks and aims to fit into various lineups while impacting the game positively.

Kidd confirmed Flagg’s role will not involve carrying the entire team’s weight. “We’re asking him to be Cooper Flagg, and that’s pretty special,” Kidd said, emphasizing the importance of growth and team improvement as the season approaches.
