Naacp Image Awards Red Carpet Preparations

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – At the NAACP Image Awards on Saturday, actress and host Laverne Cox opened up about her decision to step down from her role as host of red carpet coverage after three years. She cited her recent work, including a new Prime Video comedy series, as crucial factors in her choice.

“I’ve done so much press for that I wouldn’t have been able to do it if I was on the red carpet,” Cox said. Reflecting on her experience, she noted the lack of anxiety typically associated with preparing for awards shows. “This is the first time I’ve been getting ready for a major award show red carpet, not covered with like a hundred note cards, thinking of talking points and how to pronounce people’s names,” she added.

As she prepared for the event, Cox expressed her excitement about enjoying the process without stress. “How amazing to get ready for a red carpet without anxiety and stress! So, respect for what you do. Life is lovely on the other side,” she said, reveling in the moment of listening to music by Lady Gaga and Diana Ross.

In a January announcement, Cox shared a highlight reel of her previous red carpet interviews on social media. She wrote, “These moments are a reminder to me of what an incredible privilege it has been to talk to some of the world’s greatest artists about their work.” She emphasized her eagerness to continue evolving as an actress and artist.

Cox is widely recognized for her role as Sophia Burset in Netflix’s acclaimed series “Orange is the New Black,” earning her four Emmy nominations. During her time as host of the “Live From E!” franchise, she became known for her engaging and insightful red carpet coverage.

As she moves forward, Cox is excited about her upcoming projects and the opportunities that lie ahead, inviting her followers to join her on her journey of growth and exploration.
