Cvs Store Closures News 2025

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Health announced plans to close 271 retail stores in 2025 as part of its ongoing restructuring efforts. This decision is intended to streamline its operations and better meet changing consumer needs.

The company disclosed the closures in its annual report filed in February. This is part of a larger initiative to reorganize following the closure of approximately 900 locations between 2022 and 2024.

A CVS spokesperson explained that the decision to close specific stores was influenced by several factors. These include population shifts, consumer buying patterns, store and pharmacy density, and community health needs. The spokesperson emphasized that these closures are not a direct response to industry pressures.

While CVS has not provided a detailed list of which stores will be affected, consumer-focused site The Krazy Coupon Lady has reported 34 CVS locations already announced for closure in 2025 based on local news sources.

The spokesperson added, “We’re focused on ensuring we have the right kinds of stores and the right number of stores in the right locations. We’re closing locations strategically to better meet consumers’ health, wellness, and pharmacy care needs.”

In an effort to enhance pharmacy accessibility, CVS also confirmed plans to open 30 new pharmacy locations in 2025, including some within existing stores.

Meanwhile, a recent Arkansas law aims to restrict Pharmacy Benefit Managers from owning pharmacies, a move CVS states could impact its operations in the state.
