Danielle Brooks Teases Peacemaker Season 2 under James Gunn’s Direction

BURBANK, Calif. — Danielle Brooks, known for her role as Leota Adebayo, provided an update on the highly anticipated second season of HBO Max‘s Peacemaker, a show that continues to thrive under James Gunn‘s new vision for the DC Universe (DCU). Scheduled to premiere this August, Peacemaker Season 2 marks a significant transition as Gunn, who is now the co-CEO of DC Studios, steers the franchise into uncharted territory.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Brooks reflected on the evolution of the show since its debut during the pandemic. ‘When we first did Season 1 of Peacemaker, it was during the pandemic, so we didn’t even do press for it. We didn’t have a premiere. The fans took to it, and they loved it,’ Brooks said. ‘And now, James is taking over the DC Universe, so I don’t know what’s going to happen with Season 2. I do know that it’s done so well, and I’m excited for the response.’

Brooks compared the current excitement for Peacemaker to her experience on the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. ‘I kind of feel that same wave with James Gunn taking over. Peacemaker feels like that cool kid — one of his first babies in the DCU,’ she added. Her enthusiasm reflects the growing anticipation for how the show will integrate into Gunn’s larger vision, especially with a new Superman film slated for release shortly before the series.

Initially conceived as a spinoff from 2021’s The Suicide Squad, the show’s marketing was hampered by COVID-19 restrictions, making its initial impact more subdued. However, with Brooks emphasizing the grander opportunity for Season 2, it signals a shift in the show’s potential reach. The original Peacemaker season was largely self-contained until its finale, featuring cameos from Justice League characters.
