In related entertainment news, Gem City Burlesque is set to showcase a live band burlesque show titled “Bourbon Swing” on Thursday, April 24, at The Brightside Music and Event Venue in downtown Dayton. This performance invites audiences to experience the aesthetics of classic burlesque in an intimate, speakeasy-inspired setting.

Founded in 2021 by Lily Datura and Aurora Maur, Gem City Burlesque aims to transport audiences back in time. “We always enjoy our spring show,” Maur commented. “We’ll have vibrant tunes to get people pumped for the warmer weather, along with bright costumes. The Vod-Vil Room is very intimate and reminiscent of the speakeasy experience.”

Datura echoed Maur’s sentiments, emphasizing the show’s connection to traditional burlesque aesthetics. “This is a classic burlesque show but with a live band,” she said. “We’ll have feather fans, boas, and rhinestone costumes. It’s a unique experience that audiences in Dayton won’t want to miss.”

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. on April 24, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. General admission tickets are priced at $30, while VIP tables, which include two tickets and two drinks, are available for $150.

In other local news, the Dayton Metro Library’s board recently met to discuss the potential impact of a new budget proposal from the Ohio House, which suggests significant changes to the Public Library Fund. DML Director Jeffrey Trzeciak stated that the library will proceed with caution in monitoring state funding.

“We’re being very mindful of our spending right now,” Trzeciak remarked. “We hope to put $3.9 million back into reserves, preparing for any potential funding cuts in the future.”

The proposed budget transitions the Public Library Fund from an automatic percentage of the state’s general fund revenue to a fixed dollar appropriation. For fiscal year 2026, the bill outlines $490 million and $500 million for fiscal year 2027, reflecting flat or slightly increased funding.

Trzeciak expressed concerns about the implications of this change, noting that fluctuating appropriations could leave libraries vulnerable to future budgetary constraints. “This change could make library funding reliant on political decisions every two years,” he warned.

The Dayton Metro Library, which also benefits from a recently passed property tax levy, is preparing for the future as these developments unfold.
