David Byrne Teases New Album Amid 50th Anniversary Celebrations

NEW YORK, NY — David Byrne, lead singer of the influential band Talking Heads, is preparing to release his first solo album in seven years. The announcement comes shortly after a wave of 50th-anniversary reunion speculation among fans.
Byrne has not produced a new album since 2018’s highly regarded American Utopia. Since then, he has focused on various projects, including singles, remixes, and the musical based on Imelda Marcos, but has fans excited for what’s next.
In a recent Instagram post, Byrne hinted at his new project, stating, “I’m working on something new and will have more news to share soon.” The excitement is palpable as he prepares for the album’s release.
The new album features collaborations with the Ghost Train Orchestra, a 20-piece ensemble known for their jazz and chamber music. Over the past few months, Byrne has been in the studio with them, even joining forces with the Kronos Quartet for a live performance in April.
Producer Kid Harpoon, who has worked with big names like Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus, is also involved in the album. The first single, titled “Everybody Laughs,” is set to release on June 10, and a preview clip is already available online.
Byrne’s collaborator, Hamilton Leithauser from The Walkmen, has expressed his excitement as well, stating in a recent interview, “Amazingly, I’m working on his new record right now. He’s really cool.”
The buzz surrounding the new album adds to the energy of the 50th-anniversary celebrations for Talking Heads, who have also released a video for their iconic song “Psycho Killer.” Directed by Mike Mills and starring actress Saoirse Ronan, the video showcases a new interpretation of the classic track.
The anticipation for Byrne’s album builds as fans eagerly await more details and the first single’s release. Stay tuned for updates as this continues to develop.
