David Geffen Files for Divorce from David Armstrong After Two-Year Marriage

Los Angeles, CA — Billionaire David Geffen has filed for divorce from his husband, David Armstrong, after less than two years of marriage. The 82-year-old music mogul cited “irreconcilable differences” in his divorce filing submitted on May 16, 2025, in Los Angeles.

Geffen and Armstrong, a 32-year-old dancer also known as Donovan Michaels, married in March 2023 without signing a prenuptial agreement. Their date of separation is listed as February 22, 2025, according to the filing. Prominent divorce attorney Laura Wasser is representing Geffen.

As a co-founder of several record labels, including Geffen Records and DreamWorks, Geffen has amassed a net worth estimated at $8.7 billion. However, he has been retired for 15 years, and his income now primarily comes from stocks and equities, which are considered separate property under California law.

This could impact Armstrong’s financial settlement in the divorce. California law mandates that spousal support usually lasts for half the length of the marriage, meaning Armstrong will receive support for one year following their split. Moreover, Geffen has agreed to cover Armstrong’s spousal support and attorney’s fees, although specific amounts have not been disclosed.

The couple reportedly met in 2020 when Armstrong worked as Geffen’s personal trainer before marrying at a private ceremony in Beverly Hills. While their relationship was often kept private, Geffen did share moments of their time together on social media, including a now-deleted post from December 2021.

Armstrong, originally named David Armstrong and raised in Imlay City, Michigan, has undergone several name changes and has had a career as a go-go dancer in Miami and New York. He first gained attention as a personal trainer before becoming involved with Geffen.
