Davido Seeks Joint Custody of Daughter in Legal Battle with Sophia Momodu

Renowned Nigerian artist Davido, known as David Adeleke, has initiated a legal dispute against Sophia Momodu, the mother of their daughter, Aurora Imade Adeleke, at the Lagos State High Court.

The litigation, filed under the suit number LD/1587PMC/2024 on April 17, 2024, marks the commencement of a legal altercation regarding the custody of their child, as reported by PM News.

In his legal pursuit, Davido is requesting the court to grant him joint custody of his daughter, Imade, and unrestricted visitation rights.

Davido acknowledges the termination of his relationship with Sophia Momodu several years ago but affirms that he has consistently met his financial obligations towards their child’s welfare, demonstrating his dedication to Imade.

Emphasizing the importance of an ongoing active role in his daughter’s life, Davido is striving for joint custody and unfettered access.

According to Davido, he has been responsible for Imade’s educational expenses, including school fees, and has been covering the rent for the apartment where Sophia Momodu and their daughter reside.

Despite his efforts to ensure his child’s well-being, Davido alleges that Momodu has been making unreasonable demands, seemingly aimed at harassing and frustrating him.

Surprisingly, she declined his offer of a luxurious N200 million apartment in a gated community on Victoria Island, Lagos, with top-notch facilities.

Davido stated, “The respondent rejected the offer to stay and live at the above-described secured Oniru apartment, which had been purchased already, but demanded that I continue to pay N5,000,000 annually for a rented facility as my own contribution towards my daughter’s accommodation.”

Furthermore, Davido’s dedication to his daughter’s needs led him to purchase a Range Rover SUV for her transportation requirements, but he encountered resistance.

Last year, he was shocked to receive news of Imade’s prolonged absence from school due to issues with the Range Rover, which Momodu had not informed him about, hampering his ability to care for their child efficiently.

In response, Davido swiftly provided another vehicle, a Highlander SUV, and offered Momodu N5.8 million for the Range Rover’s repairs, ensuring adequate transportation for their daughter.

Despite his continuous provision for Imade’s well-being, Davido claimed that Momodu’s demands and treatment towards him have been unreasonable and emotionally distressing.

In light of these circumstances, Davido seeks joint custody of their daughter, Imade Adeleke, through a court order to establish a more collaborative and harmonious approach to her upbringing.
