South African golfer Dean Burmester took the lead in challenging windy conditions at the LIV Golf Andalucia tournament hosted at Real Club Valderrama. Only seven players managed to break par on the first day, with Graeme McDowell struggling with a +4, 75.

Burmester’s impressive round of five under lifted him to the top of the leaderboard, edging out Danny Lee by one stroke after a birdie-birdie finish on the last two holes.

Home favorites Eugenio Chacarra and Sergio Garcia showcased their skills, with Chacarra sitting in third place and Garcia in fourth after rounds of three-under and two-under respectively. Burmester’s outstanding performance also saw his team, Stingers GC, leading the team standings.

Sergio Garcia commended the level of play on a tough day, observing that the wind made scoring challenging. Meanwhile, Graeme McDowell and his Smash GC teammates faced a tough day with Brooks Koepka and McDowell tied at four-over.

Second-placed Danny Lee, supported by his Iron Heads team, remains in contention, placing third in the team standings behind the Fireballs GC. Notable names like Joaquin Niemann and Bryson DeChambeau faced pressure, while Jon Rahm was aiming to climb the leaderboard.
