ALLEN PARK, Mich. — The Detroit Lions made significant roster changes on Thursday following their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The team signed safety Jammie Robinson from the Chiefs’ practice squad, released defensive lineman Keith Cooper, and added safety Loren Strickland back to the practice squad.

These moves come as the Lions face a critical matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night. They needed a backup safety after Brian Branch was suspended for one game due to a postgame incident involving Chiefs receiver Juju Smith-Schuster last Sunday.

Robinson is in his third NFL season, having spent the previous two years with the Carolina Panthers and a brief stint with the Arizona Cardinals in 2024. He has played in 21 games, recording 20 tackles. Lions head coach Dan Campbell said the front office had been tracking Robinson since he was drafted in the fifth round of 2023.

“We liked him coming out, and (General Manager) Brad (Holmes) and I were talking to him. Brad’s kept an eye on him for a while,” Campbell explained. “It’ll be good to get a look at him.”

Strickland has been with the Lions for most of the season and returned to the practice squad after being waived earlier this week. He is expected to provide depth on the roster amidst the defensive changes. Cooper, on the other hand, was released after being unable to secure a spot on the active roster.

The Lions have dealt with injuries and performance issues in their secondary and hope that the addition of Robinson will provide much-needed support for their intense schedule ahead. The team remains optimistic about their season despite challenges and looks to improve their chances against the Buccaneers.
