Diego Luna Bids Emotional Farewell to Cassian Andor at Premiere

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Diego Luna reflected on his emotional farewell as he walked the red carpet for the premiere of the second season of “Andor,” held Thursday night at El Capitan Theatre. The actor, who has portrayed Cassian Andor since his debut in 2016’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” confirmed this season will mark his last appearance in the iconic role.
In an interview with Deadline during the event, Luna expressed gratitude for the journey, stating, “I said goodbye to this character when we wrapped. I had a beautiful opportunity to talk to the crew and the cast. [Creator] Tony Gilroy gave these beautiful words, we had a drink, we hugged, we cried. I’m going to miss this family.” Luna’s heartfelt remarks reflect the bond he formed with the cast and crew over the show’s production.
This latest season, filmed in London, continues to explore Cassian Andor’s pivotal role in the development of the Rebellion. Season 1 concluded with Andor on a freighter alongside Luthen Rael, portrayed by Stellan Skarsgård, setting the stage for the character’s transformation into a key figure within the Rebel Alliance. The final episode will bridge the story to the events of “Rogue One,” which culminates in Andor’s demise during the film.
“It’s tough, I went through, really, a lovely and challenging journey with these people and it transformed me somehow,” Luna shared. “It’s the dynamic, it’s my everyday life — what I have to say goodbye to.” He emphasized how impactful the experience was, stating, “It’s sad, it’s painful, but also I know how lucky I am that I had this opportunity. Many go through the journey of acting without living something like this.”
At the Golden Globes earlier this year, Luna echoed similar sentiments, noting, “I can tell you, I’m sad because it’s the last season! It’s the end.” As fans await the season premiere on April 22, 2025, Luna’s reflections add a poignant layer to his character’s farewell.
The second season of “Andor” will consist of 12 episodes, divided into four chapters. This structure promises a rich story filled with political intrigue and character development, with stakes rising as the horizon of war looms closer. The series not only highlights Cassian’s evolution but also the complex dynamics within the Rebel Alliance.
Set to air exclusively on Disney+, the series boasts a talented cast including Genevieve O’Reilly, Denise Gough, Adria Arjona, and Forest Whitaker. Alongside Gilroy, who serves as an executive producer and writer for the initial episodes, the creative team aims to deliver a gripping conclusion to the beloved character’s storyline.
